Default Wk2 tug overheating

Advice needed please ...I have a WK2 JGC and towing a 3t caravan . I usually tow in 6th as it can cause temp to rise , but after completing 3/4 lap of Oz coming across SA in 35deg and decent headwind up went the temp . Have since had cooling system flushed and put in new coolant to no great improvement. It seems to happen only when under load while towing ie. on long gradients . I am considering installing an aux cooling on transmission , does this seem the way to go ?

WK2 with the VM Motori 3lt diesel with 8 speed, what year ??

Should be hearing the fan roaring if getting near the red.......a distinct roar of sound if not fan control may be faulty.

I was under the impression all WK2's showed the tranny temp on the Evic, same screen as the oil temp and battery volts.

If you have flushed and added new coolant, make sure it was an OAT coolant NOT HOAT., it could then possibly be the thermostat has jammed, restricting flow.

When engine is warmed up, not boiling, throw a towel over the header tank cap and take it off, look inside for heaps of bubbles and/or foam, if there is could be a dicky head gasket....coolant should be just flowing into the tank as a reasonable flow not bubbling or gurgling.
Thats about all I can think of ATM.

I mentioned the high speed relay for fan as it appears in the circuit diagram for them, though I have been unable to ascertain its location on my own vehicle but haven't had a reason to research it further...

I would lean towards a possible failed thermostat, a water pump would let you know by noise, leaking or just getting hot at idle.

The other thing is have you done a lot of driving in grassy paddocks, scrubby dirt roads etc, grass seeds and stuff can build a big barrier between the Radiator, AC Condensor and Intercooler and other coolers fitted, the only decent way to clean the them properly without damage is to remove the intercooler and radiator, blow them out the AC can be done in situ, it doesn't take much to restrict the air flow either but hosing or blowing while they are all mounted can only compound the problem....Just a possible cause though.

..... Mine towing a 2.8t 23ft van normally runs at eng 105 or so and tranny from 89 to 99 any higher I don't like..... usually running at about 90-100kph, haven't had to fight big arse head winds or monster hills in the Jeep yet, but soon as my tranny hits 95 I start hitting the paddles and find the happy rev/temp range ignoring the speedo mostly but only 6mths in this Jeep so still finding the sweet spots but never like my tranny temp over 100.

Van to Fan fixed ...........
