What's the real world difference off-road between 2" lift and say 2.5" and 3.5" lift?

Last time I was off road with no lift scraped the fuel tank plate, so not too sure 2" will be enough?

I'll be going with 34" (305/70R17) tires to keep it legal.
To start with 305/70/17 tyres on a JK are not legal unless you get the diffs engineered, (not going to happen on stock diffs, the largest is 295/70/17).

The AEV 2.5" lift kit is a good kit but I'd go with the Rancho drop brackets as they are welded not bolted together. I originally had the 2.5" AEV and drop brackets but I've been running fully adjustable control arms all round on the new AEV 3.5" springs I have due to the drop bracket snapping.

The Bilsteins in the AEV kits are specifically valved to suit the vehicles whereas the Fox shocks in the DBOR kits aren't, (I'm running Fox remote res shocks now as well).

Easiest way around your problem is to get Henry @ Jeep Konnection to put AEV 2" lift kit onto the invoice not the 2.5" and you'll have the paperwork you desire.

Well my jeep has a placard that says 255/75R17 which is 815mm in diameter. 305/70R17 is 859mm in diameter, so the difference is 44mm. Well within the 50mm overall diameter, so I should be ok shouldn't I?

Thanks for the bracket recommendation, looks like a better option!

Be aware that bigger wheels also add to the overall lift calculation.
Go 1 inch bigger diameter adds a half inch. Means you'd only have 1.5 inch left for a legal lift.

I'm in the same boat Byannan. I'm down to Terraflex 2.5 with Falcon 2.1 shocks or AEV with Bilstiens. As my Wrangler is leased (I will buy at end) have done due diligence around legality/warranty/insurance ect. Most interesting info was about the 2" lift only laws. Apparently the starting point for measuring if your over 2" is the highest point of a factory stock wrangler. Which with soft top on is about an inch or 2 higher than hardtop. So what's on the books as the stock starting height is greater than you might think. (According to SRB Offroad in WA). I have a TJM steel bar and winch so not worried about breaking any laws with the 2.5 inch lift. Spoke to leasing company/insurance and dealership. Dealership says it won't void warranty just won't be covered or cover any damage lift creates. Insurance just want a list of modifications. I will watch this thread with interest as ready to pull the trigger but can't decide !!!! AEV seems to be winning, progressive rate spings good for a DD (a lot of love for them) but may get more flex from Tera. Genuinely torn
