It felt like it was running on a square bearing!
Removed it and soaked it in Zep (WD40 type product), relocated everything and tried again. Silence!! Ok, culprit found....
Now the question. Before I go ordering a replacement idler pulley, is there a common replacement part (Falcon or Commodore part that is readily available over the counter in a parts shop and is a direct swap) or is it easier to just order OEM online?

Thats the smooth one?

ED EF can be used to replace the plastic ribbed pulley. If its the smooth steel pulley there is no substitute. Therefore either replace the bearing or entire pulley.

Yup that's the smooth one! Cheers for that RB, I'll hit Repco up tomorrow. I'm heading off on holidays on New Years day so an over the counter fix is what I need.
And nice driving, love to see smug Ricers when a Jeep scares the pants off them!

It says the t/case can use both oils on the valvoline app. I'm going to put Dex3 in anyway. That's what is in it now.

My old girl doesn't like towing a caravan up long hills (Cunningham's Gap, M1 near Bulli etc) on stinking hot days! Its no use putting on a bigger fan because the tranny temp and radiator temp max out at the same time. May have to be content with giving her a rest halfway up.
