Default Diesel leaking past water sensor O ring in filter.

Hey,

Has anyone else had this issue? I ordered a genuine Merc filter and O rings, only to be disappointed that the top O ring leaked under pressure and gave me that lovely diesel smell in the cab.

After some frustration (and a beer or two) I decided to pull the sensor and remove the O rings, with the intention of fitting one 0.5 mm larger. Then I saw it- a previous mechanic had cut the O ring off the sensor, and left a nice gouge in the groove where the O ring sits! A bit of delicate work with a file and the new slightly larger O ring, and the problem has disappeared!

I would suggest to anyone who has the same issue to look at the groove and see if it's had the same treatment. The genuine O rings are metric, but the imperial one I got from a bearing place is a perfect substitute if you need to do a bit of cleaning up.

Cheers,

Rob.

Tks Rob
Would you have the specs for the o rings?
I have removed the Ryco filter, dealer installed and seeping, and replaced with a Cooper filter? The new o rings are way too big and i have used a pair i had handy but am unsure if they are rubber or synthetic. I would hate for them to perish😂.

I am in the process of ordering a Mann filter today for the next change.

Mate I am sorry I can't recall the sizes. My best answer is to take the sensor to a bearing place, they can measure it up and give you some options. Since O rings are cheap, buy a few sizes, and trial fit them.

Don't forget to dress the O ring seats on the sensor - this was 99% of the problem I had.

Cheers,

Rob.

Default CRD Fuel Filter o'ring

Hey Guys,

I just measured the o'rings that came with my last filter
15mm x 2.25mm
Stoopid size
Went up a size to 14 x 2.5
Just ran the engine for a few minutes and all dry

Good show mate. Bloody dreadful design, and the smell can ruin an otherwise nice driving experience.

Thanks for the info and just for a laugh check the below o rings.
The first is the weeping one from the ryco i replaced?
The 2nd is from a Mann filter i have just received.
The 3rd is the ones supplied with the Wesfil/Cooper filter i installed but with alternative o rings based on your advice. No leaks no smells.

Something is certainly wrong with the Ryco measurements!
