Default Early TJ Steering Box Options

I think my steering box may need replacing. I have death wobble that won't go away and pretty sure its the box. Its a 97 TJ so not the mercedes box.
What options are there;
I tried adjusting the allen head screw on top but since discovered that is more for bearing preload than adjustment. So I'm thinking of pulling box out and trying to adjust it where the steering column enters the box.

Otherwise will an XJ box bolt up?
What aftermarket options are there?
Are rebuild/recondition a good option?

I think 97 is a Saginaw box. I would look at the cost to import a AGR box v a rebuild here in Australia. I had a AGR and it was a good unit. Have you checked everything else for issues? Ball joints etc. what is your steering box doing that makes you think it's the issue?

The allan key is for back lash like a diff. Look on youtube good vids to gget your head arond it. You need to find the sweet spot. I was adusting mine and all i had to do was tilt the diff back and it took the sways out of my front end. Also look on your steering shaft for play in the mini uni joints.
I think i read the wj box is a good upgrade could be wrong though. Jump on the us forums.

highly unlikely its the steering box causing dearth wobble,, XJ box's do bolt up... I've got one. I'd be trying a lot of other avenues to fix your death wobbles first.

Anyone got a picture of a Saginaw box versus the Mercedes box?

I have a spare box at a mates place that I want to rebuild but not sure which one it is? i.e. is it obvious?

ditto, but certainly not in the realms of impossible. seems xj boxes are the way to go plenty in the wreckers
