Default AEV ProCal and Axle Ratios

Hey Guys,

Just looking for some feedback on what the axle ratio function of the ProCal
actually does (for an Auto gearbox)

The way I see it, the ECU knows the engine revs, knows the tyre revolutions from the wheel speed sensors, knows the gearbox ratios and knows the tyre size (from another procal function)

It seems the diff ratio input is an un-needed parameter as the ECU could easily calculate the final drive ratio?

The only time this could vary is then the torque converter is unlocked.
This leads me to believe the axle ratio setting is only used to help the gearbox select the correct gear when shifting without the TC being locked up.

Does this mean, buy inputting a lower axle ratio I could trick the jeep into thinking the wheels are going to feel harder to turn? Causing the jeep to hold lower gears for longer and end up feeling more responsive?

Or similarly, by inputting a higher ratio, could I encourage torque converter lock-up sooner because the ECU will think the wheels are going to feel easier to turn?

Any ideas?

No.. when I changed ratios without setting axle ratio I got an error code along the lines of "incorrect axle ratio" or similar and the vehicle went into limp mode.. set the ratios with the Procal and all was good

Aren't you asking if you can change ratios (with the procal) without actually changing the ratios to get benefits from the auto box?

I don't know the answer, but am certainly interested.

Short answer is no. Think of it this way, if it is that easy to trick the ECU, no one will make actual gear changes in order to change to different ratio. Also it just means that the ECU is very vulnerable or too hackable.
Also, even if that can be tricked, it will come with a price that you might need to pay later like abnormal wear and tear, but who knows.

You can achieve the same effect by entering wrong tyre size... i.e. enter 35 when u r actually running 33 to hold gears longer.....
