The alloy cover is reasonably tough, doesn't bend like the pressed metal cover...

Need to do mine as its now over three years old and has never been done. Its also been submerged in muddy holes 2-3 times now with the last time me using it while submerged. From your pics it doesn't look to hard. Probably will get done in the next few weeks as I am looking to try and clean or service everything I can that doesn't cost money while the Jeep is off the road.

Yesterday I pulled the carpet out and have soaped it up with CT 18 and used the karcher on it yesterday and again today as I found there was still mud in the underfelt. Also removed the backrest for the rear seat and did the same. Want to try and get everything clean as it might inspire me to keep pressing ahead with the major probs if it doesn't look like a POS.......

Looking highly likely I won't be touching the bottom end of the 4.0. Just got to see if I can find a mech that's not too far away who is willing to come out and just have a look down the bores and give the pistons a bit of a feel.

Got the fuel tank back in this morning. I replaced the Oring on pump with a new one & before putting back in I decided to turn it over to see if it leaked.
Guess what still did!!! Turns out it was 1 of the 2 very small Orings on the electrical connectors.
Gently removed both cleaned them up gave a light oil & reclamped & so far no leaks Yeewww!

Cleaned all the interior today. Looks so good inside now. I just need to clean the door jambs now as they are muddy and dusty. I may service my winch tomorrow if I can be bothered to take the bar off. Although I might tackle another issue instead which is the indicators not switching off when the steering wheel is turned.

Regards A

I don't think you're are correct about the big end under load. From my experience, a big end noise would be greater under no load as the crank journal is pushing and pulling the conrod. Also the noise isn't constant. It sounds more like loose flex plate bolts or a collapsed Cat core. I suggest using a stethoscope to pinpoint the source. A noise when not under load suggests a loose bolted connection is flogging back and forward.

This post would probably be better in the general help forum. Its difficult fo follow with so many responses. Anyway, good luck.
