The filter was not clipped in at the end remote from the suction (the plastic barbed clips). It had fretted on the pan and taken off a bit of bark. Hopefully this was the source of the glitter..

I’d say you can be pretty confident that’s the source, especially considering your pan magnet was clean.

Pretty much. I banged on a 5/8" Metrinch socket which eventually did the trick. I just needed to work up enough desperation to risk damaging part of the Metrinch set. As it turned out, zero damage.

My jobs today:

1/ Replace the rear cup holder that the air-conditioning shop broke. They supplied it but I fitted it. They thought I was being kind. The truth was I did not trust them.

2/ Pulled off the front wheels (now I can get the wheel nuts off) and squirted some grease into the upper ball joints. I also took a good look at the front pads. Plenty left.

Because the newer mount is softer than the old one, the transfer case can contact the oem skid, so I opted to keep it off for now.
Mine is in transit from Rock Auto, due next week. Thanks for the heads up about the OEM guard. I also have one fitted. I'll check the clearance after fitting the new mount.
