Default Clutch/gear box noise

Hey guys just wanted to see if a noise is normal for all you jk owners,

In first taking off, clutch in fairly sharply changing to 2nd theres a mechanical noise in the gear box like something almost has exess back lash, i got the jeep about 3,000 kms ago ( second hand ), its not all the time only when i push the clutch in sharply and always in 1st, do any of you guys get the same? It could just be my driving.

Cheers

The NSG370 manual transmission is a Mercedes-benz gearbox (legacy of Chrysler-Benz days) which uses bronze synchronous mesh components - as apposed to brass - and is not one of the greatest GB's ever made... As such, it needs a specific grade of trans fluid to prevent damage and run smoothly. Joe Blow Mechanic will put anything in them, so the first this you need to do is get the Mopar fluid (Penrite and Redline make an equivalent at a fraction of the price) and put that in. When I bought my JK the gearbox carried on like a dog - all sorts of noises - but a bit of google research and 80 bucks worth of Redline later it went like a dream. Three and a bit years later and still going like a dream.
