Default Fraser Island

well wiz and i and a 2 other couples from sdyney have bitten the bullet and are heading up to fraser in november for a weeks stay.

never been and am really looking forward to the trip despite 16+? hours in the the tj , and am keen to gather as much info as possible from guys that have already been and or locals to the area.

we will be staying at poyungan, fairly central on the island i believe? but it will do......

need tips for a newbie visitor, links etc, i know only so much to do and see on an island, but for someone that has never made it further than noosa , i need as much input as possible.

cheers, rach

i am a local to maryborough just a hop away from fraser it's a great place i normally stay at central station due to the fact there's hot showers for $2 the central station boardwalk is nice, if you go from there to eurong then up beach to all major tourists attractions(eli creek, shipwreck, coloured sands)then thers the sand blow to view, but a day trip that i definetly recomend is the vally of the giant rainforest drive tourists don't know about this run and you feel like your in jurasic park.for a swim we visit lake birrabeen looks exactly like makenzie but not alot of people go there only the ocasional tourist bus & last but not least if tide is right a trip to the tip and lighthouse is a nice drive.lots of more little places to look at but we always seem to end up back at the places i mentioned,i'm also shure if you contact sunshine jeep club they might be able to help with other suggestions on were to go

Hi Rach - have fun it's Fraser's a great place, make sure you stop by on the way back, sounds like an excuse for a Brissy party.

Here's a link to assist you, e.g. booking your site, permits etc.

Even the drive from Tewantin to Rainbow is an experience for anyone whos new to it.
Look out for the garbage truck on the beach/in the camp areas.
Stop into the Pub @ Rainbow Beach, stay for lunch, see what 4wd brand is leading on the scoreboard, some great picks of very wet cars/4wds/trucks/busses!
Buy a current tide book........
