I would like to take this opportunity to post a serious message regarding Cyclone Dylan which crossed the central Queensland coast near Bowen at around 4am yesterday. It was a category 2 cyclone with winds up to 150kph. As well as the cyclone there was the largest king tide of the year 7 hours later which meant that any low lying coastal areas were also inundated by 1.5m of storm surge on top of a massive king tide.
I live in Mackay about 180kms south of Bowen. We lost power for about 5 hours and had winds up to 102kph with plenty of rain and some areas in Mackay were affected by the king tide with storm surge however at Slade Point the suburb where we live there was no significant damage.
I have uploaded some short video snippets of my area at Slade Point and a few pictures are attached.
I hope any AJOR members that were affected by this weather system are safe and well, particularly any in the direct vicinity of Bowen. If anyone needs any assistance I'm happy to help and can be contacted on 0447766022
