Default radio and indicators stop working then work again?

ALL
my 01 TJ seems to have an electrical problem.

The radio goes off and indicators stop working sometimes and then I turn the car off and start it again and they work ok.

Checked the fuses and they seem all good.

Where else do I look?

Will prob be in your ignition switch, try jiggling your key a little next time it does it to see if it comes good.

My indicators are the same in both the work car and the TJ.
They work, don't work, work again, don't work, come good for a sec, stop working again...

Hahah you beat me to it...was going to say my indicators only work intermittently too!

Pauld is that the only stuff effected when it drops out...radio and indicators?

Next time have play with the ignition switch as others have mentioned, it may be getting old and the contacts are slightly arced or sunken (they can heat up and the contact mounted in plastic sinks into the plastic slightly).

Is the head unit still factory...ie no-one has messed with the factory wiring? If you are losing power to both you just need to find the common supply, which isnt usual but Im not familar with the TJ wiring loom so it could be.
Otherwise the unit may have been fitted and now is tapped into the indicator wiring supply. I would be getting my hands on a wiring diagram...all will be reveiled then.

Goodluck
Matt.

Cool, well had a quick look but have to run...so will look again later. But at a quick glance the Indicator has both Batt+ supply and Ign+ and as all radios do now has both too....so if all the other Batt+ gear is running and without having the time to see how the supply is distributed it could be either but mostl ikely the IGN...just need to follow the diagram and fuse supply to see if they correspond.

All that aside as others have said...many fault finding was wasted by not chaecking the simple things...check main earths and check the supply fuses for corrosion.

Get back to you.

Matt.

It's the ignition switch. One of sets of contacts inside it have gone bad. I answered the very same question on Jeepforum last night, for a 2000 model. Wiring is almost identical.
