Default Ignition issue

Hey all

2010 JKU CRD will not start or crank. I get one click from the starter (I think) and that is all.

Battery has 12.57V. Headlights turn on brightly. Cleaned and tightened terminals today and I got it to start, I let it run a while, turned off and would not turn on again, same issue with one click.

Have attempted giving the starter a knock with a hammer to no avail.

Any advice/tips would be great or is it time I took it to a mechanic?

Cheers!

Your battery sounds like it is dying. Even though there appears to be enough voltage it sounds like it's not holding a charge.

If it's an original battery, it's time for a new one as you will normally only get around 5 years out of them.

Five years on the original battery...... you've done well. Commercially quote life expectancy is three years.

As already suggested I'd start with the battery.

Although mine is the 3.6L I had the same issue about 3 weeks ago and replacing the battery solved the issue. My symptoms were exactly the same but mine is a 2014.

When it did start that one time, did it sound like the battery had plenty of grunt? Or, did it sound slow and sluggish? If the latter, probably the battery. If the former, probably the stater motor solenoid (Tapping it with a hammer wont necessary bring it in). Contacts maybe burnt/dirty.

Try getting another vehicle to jump start your jeep; you will need something with about 850CCA (not a Kia Getz..).

Could also be a faulty clutch switch.
