Default Yet another lift thread

Hi guys,

It's new tire time, and I've been wanting to get bigger ones anyway. The tires on there at the moment are 235/70/R16 BFG ATs. Seeing as the rims are 'Jeep' branded I assume that's stock ('01 TJ Renegade), but it doesn't seem to be that common at that size?

I've got my eye on Cooper S/Ts, and they have a 235/85/R16 tyre, so I assume that'll fit on the same rim. This is going to be a bit over 3" more tyre diameter, making it 32" (unless my math is bad).

Anyway, when I bought the jeep it came with a (free) uninstalled TJM 35mm lift kit (shocks and coils).

I've spent quite some time reading the forum and especially the Lift and Tyre pics thread, and am now thoroughly confused what I can get away with (yet be content ) without spending heaps.

So the questions are...
  • Can I run 32" tyres on stock lift... In my searches I found a few that were doing this, and that surprised me. They look very close to the body... If so, is that going to be shit as soon as I go offroad?
  • Is 35mm enough for 32s to be happy? Is it worthwhile getting another 15mm from coil spacers? The closer that is to 2" has me a little worried about driveline angles etc, I don't really want to spend more on all of that if I can get away with it at this stage.
  • Anything else I do actually need to be wary of?

Cheers

I was under the impression 31's were as big as you could go on a stock lift before you had to worry about rubbing (I could be wrong). Coil spacers would help but you would lose flex.

There are so many threads on here about lifts and tyre size that I'm sure you'll have no problems sorting out your own rig.

I find searching though Ausjeep a pain. I would suggest using key words in Google with 'Ausjeep' on the end. This seems to work really well.

You can put 32's on your stock lift but dont expect to be going 4wding without some serious bumpstopping.

If you put ur TJM lift in then put the 32's on and bumpstop accordingly then it wont be too bad at all. but id say just run some 31's, your lift with bumpstopping and some swaybar disco's. You will be more than surprised how good it is.

31's are as big as you can go off road without a lift. 32's are ok for onroad only. I believe you can get away with 32x10.5 or 9.5 without a lift but even then it's pushing it for off road work.

I had to add extra bumpstop to my 2" lift when I was running 32x11.5 tyres as they were rubbing.

Cheers

Thanks for the answers guys, that's exactly the clarification I was after. I hadn't considered bump stops, I have a little more research to do!

Cheers
