Mine's 2010 (last model before the new interiors)

It's a 545RFE gear box

It has gone into limp mode up hill before i knew about the overdrive button
engine temp was ok on the dash gauge so it must have been the trans overheating

So yes I presume it does have overtemp protection (even if it kicks in too late)

(this was a long time ago before i knew how much attention I had give to monitoring temps)

The auto transmission has a Hot Oil warning that comes on at 135 deg C. The words HOT OIL will come up on your display and you get that dinging noise like when you leave the key in the ignition with the door open. It doesn't put the engine into limp mode. I'm also pretty sure that the thermo fan isn't triggered by the transmission temp. I had a Hot Oil episode on a very steep low range hill on a cold day, the engine temp stayed normal but the trans temp kept rising until the warning came on and the whole time the thermo fan never kicked in.

Default update

update
The Jeep has arrived at Chrysler in Melville, techs contacted me and advised that the starter has died and causing a massive load on the battery when starting, they have apparently turned the motor over by hand so it appears not to have seized.
This still doesn't solve the problem of why it stopped in the first instance?
I may have to look at a new viscous coupling or a more sensitive cut in on the thermo fan and a trans cooler.

A new started has to come from Melbourne so I wont know anymore until next week.

Has anyone had a problem with starter motors dying before, it gave absolutely no warning of failing?

NHJ
Dealer has advised I have dropped a big end.
Looks like I now have to decide between a rebuild, an engine out of a wreck or a conversion.
What is the go with an LS conversion into a diesel and can it be attached to the 5 speed A545RFE auto box.
