Default CJ7: Frenchy's Buildup

Hi everyone. New to Jeepin, new to the forum. Been browsing these forums all day. Got me really excited about getting my rebuild going.
So I'm from Perth, I've got a mechatronic engineering degree and some big ideas for the CJ.
I bought her about a year ago in pretty bad nick. No need to list all the faults but some of the highlights were
  • broken engine mount
  • loose u bolts
  • shot brakes
The thing was all over the road because of a lift without castor shims and the big tyres. Pretty unsafe all round. Had an AMC 304 and 3 on the tree auto. The motor had problems, i think it was the carby, but it is definitely not staying. It is interesting to see that AMC decided to drop power instead of increase technology to get around the emission restrictions coming into effect at the time.

So the rebuild is pretty simple:
  • Holden Gen3 (& gearbox maybe)
  • B&M Shifter or equivalent
  • Sway bar disconnect
  • poly tank to replace the old rusted fuel tank
  • new coat of paint
  • New seats
  • Car computer for data logging, audio, video etc

Lockers and all that stuff can wait till the girl is on the road. I really am looking for advice in that department anyway because the transfer case has a locker. I'll post the vitals next time. I;m interested to find if anyone else has dumped a gen3 into a cj. the adapters are available for motor to gearbox but I'm not sure about gearbox to transfer case if I get a motor gearbox combo.

Photobucket is playing up so I'll post some pics next time. I've got her stripped down to the axles and have just cleaned and primed the rear axle (PITA). I have cleaned up some of the shockingly bad welds on the chassis.

Cheers fellas.

Nice to here another CJ build, all the best to you. As someone re-building a cj, all I can say is plan your whole build and what you want it for so you only spend the money on the right thing once. They are a 30 year old truck so not really a problem to work on.

Bad nick?!..taken me a couple of years to get mine to that level of functionality.
