I kinda like the look but can never see the point, tiny tray and no security anymore for any gear. For a dedicated off road rig it would work well, muddy recovery gear just chucked in the back but for much else I don't really see any advantage over a wagon.

Cheers
Steve

Default Dual Cab XJ

I really like the look and would be useful off road, agree with Steve as a daily it is less practical. Have one in the shed with a bit of damage and have trawled the American forums for info, I am considering giving it a go down the track.
I was wondering if anyone else in Aus ever pulled one off?

Thanks for the input, I already have a daily, the xj was only bought as a toy, day trips and mucking round when we go camping (we have a GQ set up as a tourer)

I like things that are different, and the more I look at it, the more the idea appeals to me.

I understand that you lose a lot of space by cutting the metal out, but I think it would make a fun trail rig

Just a bit of an update, gutted the interior plan is to bedline the floor and run no carpet. The leather is ruined after the weekend at mt dissapointment, so I bought a pair of race seats that I will fit to the stock electric bases just has to make up some mounts. It will be a dedicated 2 seater, i have a cargo barrier to sit behind the front seats then make a false floor to cover the rear seat area. Then the rest will be storage and somewhere I can sleep when it gets too wet

Pulled the engine down today and found a nice little window in the block

I will be pulling the engine out of my donor XJ and rebuild the motor then add a snorkel.

Come on Mr Tax man, I have some money I need to spend.....

But in the meantime, I have stripped my donor, removed diffs and engine, engine is sitting at my workshop ready for rebuild!!

Diffs are in my backyard, stripped and waiting, I am using these diffs to regear for the 31's I bought off purds.

Removed all of the carpet and started covering the floors in bitumen paint, what an awesome job that is very thick to paint on with a brush.

Started making a false floor for the rear, only running it as a 2 seater, all the back will be for storage and sleeping in.

Once the false floor is in, I will be able to mount my cargo barrier (from a ED wagon) and then concentrate on mounting the new seats that I have on the existing rails so I can have race seats on electric motors

got even further through my false floor yesterday (in between all the rain), now just have to get some steel to lay over the top then make a drawer/storage system

Bought some barwork earlier in the week and last night!!!
Thanks to eBay for my rear bumper and spare wheel carrier, I just have to wait for it to be shipped from Queensland

Last night I went around to XJJEEP96's house and bought one of his highmount winch bars (picking it up next week)
