Sorry to dig up an old thread but I can finally give a proper answer.

The tyres got a proper workout this weekend on the way to Lowell’s flat campground in the Brindabella National Park. They performed brilliantly. The road was in fairly poor condition with long stretches of sharp craggy rocks and also plenty of loose sections. Many, many steep climbs and descents through more rock as well as powder-like loose dust surfaces.

Was aired down to about 24psi. No chipping or anything like that off the tyures. When I took the same track last year I did it in road tyres easily, but now I’d say it’s very risky to go on anything but A/Ts or better.

Really happy with the tyres on-road and in the wet too

Cheers

On a previous car I had the Bridgestone 697's and towed a 2t van. They wore very quickly - especially in the rear.

Recently bought 5 Falken Wildpeaks - standard 18" rims, no other modifications. I now tow a 3.5t off-road van and am just back from a trip to Lightning Ridge, Longreach and came home via the Darling River Run. nearly 10,000km and they are in perfect condition, almost as new.

Really happy with them

Goodyear Duratrac 265-60-18 : Have had them on the car for approx. 50,000klm. Plenty of high country + outback + desert driving.

Good = excellent grip in mud / rocks. Come with a Beaurepairs replacement guarantee if damaged........ consequently of the 5 originally purchased, 3 have been replaced at no charge.

Bad = Numerous punctures + plenty of sidewall cracks / chunks of tread
torn off .
Have had a few woopsy moments on wet bitumen.... ( all I was
doing was following a Wrangler !!!).
Have become unbearably noisy
