Default 2017 towbar recall??

I don't usually pass on second hand info but this could help someone, at least to find out more in case your car might be affected...

On another forum (non-Jeep) a report from a guy who's due to pick up his new GC in a couple of weeks time - The dealer has told him the OEM towbar can't be fitted due to a recall released only yesterday 22/3. No one seems able to find any written evidence or notifications about the towbar recall but the dealer is evidently adamant and is quoted as saying about 220 GC's are affected nationally, and they shouldn't be towing.

This particular guy is having the dealer fit a HR bar instead. If you have a '17 with "factory" bar it's worth looking into....

I have a May 2017 build with factory tow bar.

My dealer has no information on this recall so I called the Jeep customer service hotline, 1300 133079, be prepared to wait but they told me there was no recall on my vehicle. She did say there was some information on a recall for towbars on 2017 models but so far mine isn’t listed for recall. That may change in the next few days she suggested and wouldnt divulge any more details to me at this stage.

They will send a letter to affected vehicles by post.

we recently picked up a new MY17 Trailhawk, it was supposed to have the towbar installed. The dealer rang and apologised to us advising there was a recall on the towbar.

My wife rang Jeep and they confirmed the recall, although there is nothing on Aust recall site about it.

Reading the Aussie FB page, it seems it has something to do with bolts coming loose.

Interesting, I picked up a new GC in November with factory tow bar. Went to hook a trailer up for the first time last weekend and they didn't wire or at least check that the trailer plug was working so I used my wrangler instead. Might be just as well.
Having said that I was in the dealership yesterday having a winge about the non working plug and nothing was said about the towbar

I saw this on FB just now as well. When I took my MY18 Trailhawk back for the 1000km check my tow bar was loose. I got into an argument with the dealer as they blamed me as I had fitted other accessories, but did not touch the tow bar. I had already towed for about 600 of those km by that stage and was not happy to find out it was loose. Anyway they tightened and that was the last I thought of it until now, and I will be towing again at Easter. If there was any thought of it being a safety issue surely they would contact customers, even if the dealers did it for now.

Call to dealer, oh yes we are aware of a recall for these but you should have been contacted already! Ah no I haven’t, so a bit sad I found out from social media but better that than when it fell off I guess. Anyway taking it up there on Monday to get it on the hoist for starters.
