I was just watching the latest video from Danny Lyman at GDL and he was saying that non OE front shockers tend to cause knocking noises to do with their inbuilt bumpstop problems. As I am planning to fit Ironman ones in a few week's time, is there anyone out there who has fitted the Ironmans and had these noise problems with them? Rather be sure than sorry!

I do know the lower mount on the Ironman units is certainly substantial and not just a pressed bit of sheet metal.......... Had a look at the GDL vid and maybe it just applies to standard gear ....

Have seen that vid....couldnt quite get his meaning ????.....if the bottom of the strut is rubbish...surely you could see that prior purchase ???....not saying that if the buyer didnt know what they were looking at that they may not get 'caught out'....but if a comparison is done with the original to the aftermarket and there's a noticeable difference in 'integrity' then its 'buyer beware'....not every aftermarket product is an improvement on OEM....BUT in this case the difference would surely be apparent ????.....am I off track ???

The lower mount on the front strut is a pressed metal affair and being fairly long if it wasn't pressed and shaped right it would distort ...
His bit about the shockie having an internal buffer got me, haven't come across an after market standard shock yet so assume if you just replaced the shock with an after market it would be a lift job, refit the standard spring which would have sagged your certainly going to bang or blow out the new shock ............... I reckon if one shock/spring goes its time to throw the lot as sure as eggs you will be on the hoist again..... Don't think I have ever replaced suspension with OE gear on any vehicle for that matter, all 3 Grands have binned the OE suspension soon as possible... Kings springs/Old Man Emu/Rancho shocks or Ironman, they all seemed to work...

I have made up a 15mm spacer placed on top of the bottom spring mount on the Ironman Strut. I made it out of conveyor belt that I had in the shed for one of those “ might come in handy one day” events.
It should give me about 20 to 25 lift in ride height measured at the mudguard arch using the original springs which have only dropped 15 mm after 100000 km and 9 years.[img]https://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/imagehosting/380746448c653d9a8d.jp
