Question Anyone had this problem?

Howdy all

Got a 2000 XJ. Love the best. However my aircon has just started playing up.

It cools, it blows...But only onto the windscreen (demist). It was working fine and then just changed direction and now won't respond to the control.

Any help would be great

Thanks

Used to happen in my Wrangler all the time. I think the vents are vacuum controlled. Not sure how they work. Sorry.

Hi WOTAN

I bought a 1996 Grand Cherokee Ltd just over a year ago and had a similar problem

This problem was cused by a retaining clip falling off part of the mechanism in the air conditioner contro system located just above the transmission hump and under the dash. I fabricated a new clip and installed it... works well, but it is a bitch of a job

Have fun

Garry

Before you go ripping everything to bits look for a vac leak in the lines in the engine bay. Default setting if there is no vac is onto the demist (windscreen). It only takes the tiniest hole to destroy the vac system

Ta. Just inspected the linkages they seem OK. Also discovered my cruise control is not responding (same day). I think that also works by vacuum, coincidence? If a small hole will bugger the vacuum, how can you locate it.
Thanks

When this happened to mine i could actually here the suction from one of the vacuum hoses that had come off. You will need to start the car to do this though. Just check all of the lines in the engine bay with the car running
