Consumer Protection has issued a warning about a Perth business selling Jeep parts and accessories which takes money from consumers but in many cases fails to deliver.

A total of 24 complaints have been received against Aftermarket Jeep Parts Australia and owner James Alan Bartlett from consumers around Australia who have ordered parts online but didn’t receive the goods. Nine complaints remain outstanding where consumers who have paid a total of $11,230 have either not received their goods or a refund.

Although the business operates an accessories shop in Yangebup, the complaints relate to online orders made via the website aftermarketjeep

Acting Commissioner for Consumer Protection David Hillyard said Mr Bartlett has so far not cooperated with attempts to resolve the outstanding complaints.

“Consumer law states that goods must be supplied within a reasonable time and traders must not accept payments for goods and then fail to deliver,” Mr Hillyard said.

“Aftermarket Jeep Parts Australia has taken a substantial amount of money from consumers who have not received their goods, and Mr Bartlett has so far failed to fulfil his promises to refund their money.

“Until the remaining complaints are resolved and we can be assured that orders placed on the website will result in the goods being delivered within a reasonable time, we caution consumers about using the website of this business to buy Jeep parts and accessories.”

Consumers who have had unsatisfactory dealings with Aftermarket Jeep Parts Australia and James Bartlett can contact Consumer Protection by email consumer@commerce.wa.gov.au or by calling 1300 30 40 54. General information about consumer rights is available on the Consumer Protection website www.commerce.wa.gov.au/cp.

There r no end of pop up traders on the internet, for just about anything that you might want. And a good number of them set up business after business, including at the same time, to do nothing other than scam people.

I always buy from reputable companies and from OS like Quadratec and Morris 4x4. This is usually where traders here acquire their parts that they then sell on to you with their premiums added, including for freight etc, shop window cleaning, toilet paper and coffee machines. Mopar is also another group I deal with directly.

For example, a Jeep dealer here wanted me to pay the cost of one front brake disc that was equivalent to the total price i payed to have 4 disc, pads, springs, clips etc delivered to my door, all within 2 weeks. Same dealer wanted $1200 for an alternator I had delivered to my door for under $500. Another "reputable trader" quoted nearly $2000 for the same item and they all would have accessed them from where I did.... Mopar.

I have aways received what I have ordered from OS stores within about 2-3 weeks, which does not seem too long to wait to know that your part will arrive and at the best price.

I know the story about dealing with Aussie businesses, but why? Get up to date, trade internet, trade with reputable dealers with a proven track record.

I compare....local to importing. Often, but not always, I can source locally at a comparable price to privately importing when I deal with known local businesses ..... sometimes, the item required is simply not stocked by local dealers, so I buy via the internet or simply call up the sales line overseas and order directly.
Works well....best I've done is a large box of parts from Florida (Morris4x4) in 4 days - amazing service.
