Hi - new member here with a couple of Jeeps in the household.
Got a 2015 KL Cherokee Longitude 3.2L V6 since new. Good car, and only been back to the dealer for scheduled services, safety recalls and a dodgy tyre pressure sensor that they fixed under warranty. Mainly used as my wife's shopping trolley and dog transporter, and sometimes she lets me drive it.
We haven't been so lucky with the 2002 KJ Cherokee Limited 3.7L V6 my daughter bought about 18 months ago. Feels like it has spent as much time in my garage as she has driving it. The following things I've replaced I'd consider maintenance items, so no big deal and parts are not too expensive if you shop around:
- mirror gears
- engine and diff oils, filters, sump plug
- Transmission service kit and filter
- coolant and new radiator fan, thermostat
- drive belt, tensioner
- brake rotors, pads and caliper pins
- spark plugs and a couple of the DI coils
The next lot are irritants but not unexpected in a near 20yo car:
- alternator
- starter motor
- coolant expansion tank
- Transmission solenoid block, TRS cam plate
- window regulator
- Front prop shaft CV joint and boot
The latest issue, and the one that may finally be the end of the KJ is the PCM. I am going to post in the KJ section about this drama.
By my estimate, we've spent about 4k in parts on a car that only cost around 5k. Given that is has cosmetic damage from the Jan-2020 hail storm in Canberra it's got no resale value so the plan has been to drive it until it drives no more. Would be a real shame if this is it, as I have become quite fond of the old KJ, and my daughter loves it for the driving position, visibility, and as a rolling wardrobe and repository for water bottles, McDonalds wrappers and dog fur
Any suggestions of an independent workshop or mobile mechanic/sparky around Canberra/Queanbeyan who is good with Jeep electronics would be much appreciated.
