I am not good at waiting and the dealer rang on Monday to say my white JK Wrangler four door auto petrol was ready to be picked up. I am rapt in it.

So far I have managed to put some 400 kilometres on it in two days - mostly secondary highway travelling. Apart from fitting a few bits and pieces from the Jeep accessory pamphlet I don't think I will be doing much more to it although a bull bar for some driving lights is being considered. Low beam is great but the standard high beam is just hopeless.

I've been careful to not sit on 100 kays an hour and to try and vary the engine revs so I use the auto shift lever to change and hold gears for a bit on the hills and windy bits. It's funny how now I can't find excuses to not go somewhere – I just love driving it and it sure gets some looks and interest from the small local community where I live which is mainly Japanese four wheel drive orientated. A mate summed my Jeep up when he saw it and described it as thus - “It looks as mean as cats piss”.

Gotta go- got some more driving to do. That Pentastar engine is fantastic.

Congrats mate. Oh and by the way you will mod it. In a few years I will quote this post once you have installed your lift, flash rims, bigger tyres, bar work, snorkel...... Well you get the picture

You guys are incorrigible with your modding adiction. But no - that won't be happening. I have been there and done that and now I am happy to just plod along with out the "got to conquor the world" outlook. It's amazing what a bit of age can do to your outlook on life as well as the physically demanding rigours of vehicle recoveries.

I did consider the bar and winch but I find it simply amazing that big and well known companies here in Oz will not respond to emails or phone calls re buying these and some other Jeep specific stuff I want. Heck - even some city based Jeep dealers were not that interested in talking to me about a Jeep when they found out I was a rural customer.

I have always practised buying all my stuff in Oz or Oz made and supporting local companies but no more. I guess now I am going to learn how to get stuff for my Jeep from o/s.
