c14 is 12v power for the tcm
D14 is the tcc 16 ohms tested with lead to neg terminal of battery
D15 s1 solenoid 16 ohms
D16 s2 solenoid 16 ohms

Dropped the pan off the tranny and took the solenoids out to test.

S1 S2 are activating correctly. TCC is rooted.

Moving forward will do a full flush of fluid. Replace the tcc solenoid. There was a bit of sludge in the pan probably the clutch packs wearing down. Put it all together

Buy a second hand box to rebuild with a valve body mod.

Just make sure you get the correct solenoid, as there's 3 different TCC solenoids last I checked. I got lucky and ordered solenoids for an A340E Toyota transmission (very similar to the AW-4) and they were all correct.

Righto, problem solved. For everyone’s reference you can pick up solenoids from www.motospecs.com.au

$44.08 each

Did a full tranny fluid flush, took about 12L to push all the rubbish out.

Thank you all for your advice and attention.

I’ll check the state of the fluid in 250000ks
And will be installing a temp gauge in the coming weeks. I’ll do a write up if people are interested, let me know.

Also I have an in-line bar/fin oil cooler
Loop is. Front port of transmission to bottom of rad, top of rad to bottom of oil cooler, top of cooler to rear port of tranny.

Will be doing a full rebuild of a second hand tranny in the future. With valve body mods. Will do a write up, let me know if you’re interested.

good work..an AW4 rebuild writeup would be excellent

as you have a '96, you should be able to add a trans temp gauge using the factory port

(according to the article), just remove a T55 torx from the case and screw in the stated adaptor.

I ditched the radiator heat exchanger completely.
Did this for tranny temp gauge.

Confirmed dead solenoid this morning. Swapped TCM for the old car, and it worked perfectly for about 5 minutes. Turned the car off and on again and same symptoms, no lock up whatsoever. Tried jumping the harness to force it to lock and no dice. Just another thing to fix [emoji23]
