I'm in a similar boat, but mine hasnt totally crapped it yet.
My 2014's AC has been making the darth vader breathing sound for over a year now. Jeep have no idea what it is and have been to multiple dealers.
It's recently starting making much louder sounds, but damn, $1800... I'd be getting rid of the thing before spending that much.
If you get a second opinion, let me know what the outcome is.
I reporting a number of AC issues while still in warranty 2 years ago, but they couldn't figure out a solution. (When changing between normal and de-mist vent modes, an actuator makes a grinding sound. Dealer just tightened the air vent togglers... *face palm*)
I'm wondering if I'd be able to lean on FCA to fix this as i dare say it's related to the previously reported issues.
Good luck with yours mate, keep us updated.

that is the lovely noise, trombone resonating sound I had. I pressed dealers hard to replace all the components on the last month it was under warranty.
Printed all the materials I had from the US forum. At the time, only 3 of us in Australia had the issue.
Sounded embarrassing. The car was in for 3-4 days, and free loaner.

You wouldn’t have details about what was replaced?
Photo of the worksheet?

I would need to dig up the emails between myself and the servicing dealer. They dont provide me the work sheet on warranty jobs.
We discussed this to death on the other forum.
