Default alternator lost communication to ecu

Hi all
Here is a little problem for you. I just recently took the engine out of my jeep to do repairs and put it back in. I now have a DTC u1132 lost communication with generator active and the battery light is on. I have checked the earth cables and the single wire on the back of the alternator and all are good. By the way it is a 2.8crd uk model. the battery is charging as I have started and stopped it loads of times with no sign of the battery going flat. I also disconnected the battery with the engine running and it kept running hence its putting power out. I am at a loss now so any thoughts/ideas would be much appreciated.
Regards
Jeff

Never run the engine without the battery connected. This alone can cause all sorts of problems with the electronics. What voltage is showing when the engine is running & the battery connected? This will tell you if the alternator is working properly.

You probably popped the output diode when you disconnected the batt whilst the engine was running, not a good practise since carbies were in fashion.
