Nice to know guys.

So the fuel economy is around 15l/100km?

Just making sure.

Is the newer 3.7 worth the coin.
6spd vs 5spd?

What are theyears that I should be looking at as in post 2005 or other>

Cheers big ears.

Thumbs up

death wobbles is another major thing when you lift them, gets really annoying, and you have to go through trial and error to figure out what it is as all jeeps are different.
Death wobble is NOT a major thing on TJs, heaps of people run 35s and 37s and have no issues, agrreed if you run a big lift and big tyres you MIGHT have MINOR issues but nothin to freak out about, maybe do some maintenance on your Jeep if it plays up? [END QUOTE]

Death Wobble ONLY becomes an issues after you lift the suspension OVER 2".......if you don't go higher and get a good wheel alignment done to ensure the Toe-in and Caster are spot on you will NOT have death wobbles ......

A 2" Old Man Emu lift and new OME shocks and 30 x 9.50 x 15 or 31x10.50x15 or similar P- Metric sizes in an aggressive ALL TERRAIN, or a non-aggressive MUD TERRAIN, fitted to this size lift will make a good looking, economical (to fit up and to fill with fuel) Daily Driver that's still competant enough to go to 90% of off road places....it will easily tackle to the Tip of Cape York for example, but still be an economical all round FUN CAR and DAILY DRIVER.

You've had a Jeep already, so I know "you'll understand"

The 3.7 V6 was not a proven old time, very long lasting (if not brilliant performance, power or economy) engine like the 4.0 straight six was......the 3.7's weren't in the TJ's ever, only the JK's....it's been replaced already by a totally new 3.6 V6. In the US you you couldn't buy Deisels in the JK, so people would throw out the 3.7 V6 and fit a Diesel from a Cherokee/Liberty 2001-on or the Hemi 5.7 or 6.1 from a Grand Cherokee

I run a 2 inch lifted TJ... and have had numerous instances of death wobbles over the 10 years that I've driven it.

All related to worn components on the front end .. be it panhard / tie rod / or dodgy tires .. and my most recent .. passenger side lower control arm bush died.

So DW's aren't ONLY a OVER 2" issue ...

Saying that .. if your buying a reasonably maintained stock truck .. then it shouldn't be an issue anyways.

My 5 speed is on it's way out ... but from the few chats I've had with people in the know .. the indication is that the 5 speed is stronger then the 6 ... so depending on what you want to do with the truck you need to make that call. 5 speed for strength or a 6 speed for slightly better gearing which can help with larger rubber (if thats your wish).

I do 70km a day round trip to work and back ... thats with 33 inch muds ... and my economy isn't HORRID ... and it's much better on the highway ... but I am running 4.56 gears which offsets the larger tire size a lot. In a recent trip back from Coffs I did a single tank of fuel for the trip .. which I guess puts me at about 16L/100km on the freeway ... which for a lifted rag top on 33 muds is pretty reasonable.
