WK2 Failed Diesel engine

There are people around now doing rebuilds on these motors.
I know of at least one guy here in WA doing rebuilds.
At about $10k for a rebuild you would need to evaluate the age of the car.
It does still intrigue me why some of these engines travel 170,000km fine then all of a sudden blow crank bearings.
Has to be some thing to do with oil pressure .
Oil pressure relief valve getting stuck of similar.?

Name and shame these people who have the audacity to rebuild the what we get told is unrebuildable......................

Northern Victoria Engines, one of the largest rebuilders in Australia, would probably do it. They own many of the rebuild places around Australia. They are what came about when Repco stopped rebuilds. It was the son (Barry) of the guy that was the national manager of the Repco rebuilding operation who started it. BM engines & GEM are also ones that have been bought out or started by them.

Yes, if only more rebuild parts were readily available. Maybe soon they will be...I do know though you can source rings and bearings for them at a reasonable cost.

The rebuild cost of the VM isn't all that bad, most of the new you beaut dual cabs that fail and need a rebuild are setting owners back close to $20k these days.

I would hesitate in sticking a S/H engine in as there would likely be zero history, and could just be another drama...unless a very low km unit out of a write off became available.

I still have my old WK2, and that engine was still running when I shut it down for the last time, albeit with the ticking noise.
I am getting more tempted as days go by to pull that engine, wrap it up, and stick it in the back of my new you beaut garage for a future rebuild!

Well serviced motors are failing.! Stellantis Aust would now be well aware of the increasing failures.I also know of a couple of owners whomwere told that if they had used a Jeep dealer for services they may have been able to help more!
This statement is totally illegal under the ACCC , ACL laws! FCA opened a can of legal worms in 2016 re oil vicosity change. If an earlier 2011 to 2016 it means wrong viscosity oil was used for five years !.After 2016 the viscosity change applied as per US govt mandated safety recall TSB to try and stop main bearing failure! And in Australia you still couldnt get the correct spec oil.In other words FCA US were forced by a US govt agency NHTSA to issue a world wide safety recall ! As a solicitor / barrister mate of mine said,he would have a field day with this one!

Emailed Northern Vic Engines on Tuesday and haven't heard a thing back. HM Engines no longer do them as the parts are too expensive or too difficult to obtain.
I'm hopeful I can come to some sort of deal with Stellantis, I do love my Grand, it is really the most comfortable, fun to drive vehicle I've ever owned.

And they wonder why sales have plummeted, only 700 or so across the Jeep range these first 3 months. Ram has also slowed considerably. Reminds me of the Stellantis boss saying Jeep will get into the top ten. Not with their business plan they won’t. I reckon the brands done in Australia. VM Motori was owned by Jeep and Fiat etc that’s why parts are not available for the 3ltr diesel except through dealerships, exactly the opposite business model of Ineos Grenadier where information and parts are supposed to be readily available IMHO
