Default Unfriendly Jeep Service

Hi all,
A new local Jeep dealership opened last year and a separate Jeep service centre opened not far from it.
When I first dropped into the service centre they were quite helpful & friendly.
My second last time was when my drivers side window kept coming straight down when hitting the auto up switch. They claimed that both front window operators have to be replaced and it would be around $900.00 for parts and around $300.00 for labour. They were to email me a quote. Dropped in there twice since........still no quote, however the window seems to have fixed itself in the meantime as it hasn't happened for a while now.

Not long after they opened, I asked them if they had a dipstick for checking the auto transmission fluid level. They claimed that they didn't, but a nearby service centre did. I dropped in yesterday and asked the same question.
The service guy first asked why I wanted it checked. I replied that I had done 40K since the last transmission fluid change and that I wanted to see where the level was at. He claimed that I should have it changed now as the service book states that it should be done every 40K.
Any thoughts from others on this???
Their reply was that they did have a way of checking the fluid level but it involved booking the car in the following day. They said they would need it for an hour as they had to run it, put it on their computer, then check the level. A total cost of $145.00 to me. WTF

Whatever happened to friendly Jeep service, or am I being unreasonable expecting them to do a quick level check??????

Cheers, Craig

Sorry mate but yes I think you’re being unreasonable to ask a business to perform work for you for nothing – simple as that.

Service book doesn't say change fluid every 40,000 in fact fluid change is listed at 100,000km, not that I am saying you shouldn't replace the fluid more often just that they are lying to you.
Quote:
Lying | Define Lying at Dictionary.com
dictionary.reference.com/browse/lying‎
the telling of lies, or false statements; untruthfulness: From boyhood, he has never been good at lying. Synonyms: falsehood, falsity, mendacity, prevarication.
And why shouldn't they check the fluid level for nothing as Jeep didn't supply a way of checking it yourself like it should have, it a load of B/S.

I agree with you Clarky re: The service intervals as per book. Was fed some BS there.

I am more annoyed at the fact that they would have checked it without charge the first time if they had of had a dipstick. Now they want it for an hour and charge me $145.00.....pffft.

I re-read the service book and providing that the engine / transmission is at running temperature, it should take about 5 minutes, not a fu&#@* hour as suggested by Jeep service. And what is this hooking it up to a computer BS?

Where is the service now a days.......

Cheers, Craig

They connect the star scan to get the temp from the transmission, then compare the fluid level height on the service only dip stick against this chart.

The aftermarket B&M pan I purchased has provision for a temp gauge so when I get around to fitting it I will know the temp & can do my own checks like on a normal car

Here is a link to a nag1 service pdf if you don't already have one.

Hey thanks for the information Clarky.
Appears to be a little more involved than they made out the first time I went in.

Still feel like I have been fed some unnecessary BS.

Sounds like the problem was that you spoke to 2 different people with differing levels of knowledge or interest. Rather than just saying 'I don't know' they respond with BS so they don't look dumb.....
