Default Looking at KK Cherokee for my son.

Hi all,

My young bloke wants a 4WD wagon - he likes my 2013 Wrangler but JK's are over his price point. At his budget, I've suggested we look at late KK wagons.
Any comments on things to look at?
I've suggested to him that we try and look at CRD's becasue they have the later 5 speed auto....thoughts?
I was under the impression that all KK's are Command-Trac II 4WD systems.....with a switch on the centre console next to the shifter to select drive mode......but I've seen a picture of a 2012 thats for sale where the spot on the console for the 4WD switch is just a small coin tray....the dealer lists it as "rear wheel drive". Were there KK's that are 2WD only?

Many thanks for your feed back.

See if this helps....

Command-Trac II

Command-Trac II works the same as Command-Trac but uses a console mounted switch to control the MP1522 transfer case as opposed to a floor mounted lever.[1]

Applications:

2008-2012 Jeep Liberty/Cherokee (KK)

Selec-Trac II

Selec-Trac II uses a console mounted switch to control the MP3022 transfer case. The switch controls the 4WD mode with options of 2WD - 4WD Auto - N - 4WD Low. The MP3022 transfer case uses an electronically controlled clutch pack to bias torque from 100% rear to 50/50% front/rear. The transfer case has no center differential, so power can only be supplied to the front axle when the rear wheels begin to slip. In this way, the transfer case works almost identically to the NV247 transfer case used in the Quadra-Trac II system in 1999 to 2004 WJ Jeep Grand Cherokees. In 4WD Low mode, the clutch pack is locked and power flows through a 2.72:1 planetary gear set for higher torque at lower speeds.[3][4]

Applications:

2008-2012 Jeep Liberty/Cherokee (KK)

When we purchased our KK the salesman told us that less than 50% of KK's are 4x4's. (We got one of the last ones. There were 4 on the dealers lot. Only 1 was a 4x4). How true that is I don't know but I do know there are a lot of non 4x4's out there.

regards

As far as I understand it the 4wd system on the KK is only really when in low range in 4wd high/fulltime the PCM decides when it needs the extra traction. I have found it sux ...4wd wet gravel road 4wd kicks in going round a corner almost throws you off the road
