[QUOTE=CamAE;1643387]Will do, but its also the shifter and EBS so my guess is something more systemic?

Wasn't the electro hydraulic power steering related to the alternator failures

Yep the electro hydraulic power steering was related to the alternator failures. Is probably worth checking the alternator exterior for any signs of heat damage ie: soot/ scorch marks.

Cheers

Started car this morning, still has power steering fault and no power steering. Only running acouple of minutes and the alternator was almost too hot to touch.

Think I've found the culprit, plug on the back of the alternator. Start of cable is all charred and cable is very tight! Rest of cable does not look professional at all!

Question is; is it the dodgy install or the alternator overheating? And should I send it to jeep or an auto electrician who will do a proper job?

I'd be getting it checked by an Auto Electrician to confirm what the go is & keeping any receipts. If it's related to the T36 alternator recall

I'd be contacting the Jeep dealer or contacting Jeep here to make a complaint/ask for assistance:

I'd be taking it back to the dealer and demanding it get fixed properly. I'd also send that photo to FCA and tell them what has happened so they know the quality of workmanship some of their dealers are doing.
This sort dodgy work needs to be stopped, not only is it annoying and insulting but it can be downright dangerous.

Check the alternator mounting bolts/ threads to see if they have actually been removed in order to replace the alternator. It wouldn't be the first time a vehicle owner has been told something was replaced & upon further inspection the bolts had no sign of a socket/spanner being fitted to it or the threads/bolt heads were still covered in dirt/grime. I've had repair/service work done in the past to trailer mounted gen sets & been told that the starting battery was replaced- to check on this I went to the battery & shone a torch on the casing & sure enough there was the date & my signature in black marker pen on the casing from 3 years earlier. Needless to say when I pointed this out to the service guy the battery got replaced the same day.

Cheers
