Thursday last week I flew to Victoria to pick up a 1994 jeep xj I bought of ebay. 193000 klm, and hadn't been run for 15 months and is on dual fuel. 1994 has the non air bag steering wheel, so cool. How was the drive? pissing down rain, flooded hume hwy, lots off back streets and the xj didn't miss a beat. Gelong to blue mountains 1058klms in one drive, the cars good.

swapped A/C compressors & lines, my write-off had good A/C
the replacement vehicle has a suspected leaking compressor, and dodgy lines, wont hold gas
off to the A/C gas guy on 4/1/19
did the job on Xmas, promised the Mrs only hand tools, and no cussing
I also previously pulled the spring, obtained a new centre pin to replace the sheared off one, drove the write-off to get de-gassed as a test drive
oh..after using a sledgehammer to knock out a big dent in the wheel, re-bead tyre, holds air fine

Fitted new CPS unit with usual minor scrapes and cuts to hand and knuckles.
Ordered 1.30 pm yesterday and in my hand in Hobart before 12:00 today, from Brisbane via Skytrack. If only Australia Post were that good.

I took my XJ on a 300km round trip in mid 40 degree C, weather. It did not like standing at idle with the temperature gauge peaking at 110 deg C, and remaining on 100 deg C at a sustained 100kph speed. Yes, the cooling fan was on... and I use the Penrite 8 Year Coolant (pink stuff). The cast iron 4.0L engine loves to run hot on summer days and probably added to the heat in NSW today. The temp gauge is usually running between 95 - 105 degrees. Still on the factory water pump after 23 years but on the fourth 4 Mopar Copper plastic Radiator. The two copper brass Adrads that I tried several years ago failed after 2 months and 4 months respectively (in the cooler months of the year). But that was another thread....

Had to flush out a huntsman or huntswoman spider from somewhere out of the bodywork of the car at 2am. Car was needed for an overnight 1 hour drive hospital emergency trip.
Late yesterday, I noticed the largesque 8 legged friend outside my driver's window as I pulled out of the local supermarket car park. It looked like a leaf had fallen. When I unblurred my vision due to the close ín focusing, I saw it scamper to the side mirror and then followed by the hood, and windscreen. Before I could turn on my wipers to flick it off, it ran somewhere down the drivers side towards the wheel arch.
When I got home, I took to the wheel arch with a spider spray but nothing dropped out. Waited a couple of hours for results...
At 2am I was about to move my tyre inflation equipment gear to the JKU [as I did not want the patient to get a surprise in the XJ] and before I could open the tailgate, I noticed the huntsperson on the bumper with their knees bent.... still alive... and very mobile...
I dropped it on the garage floor with a light broom and swept it into the night....
These kind of pax are hangers on.... I once took the XJ through floodwaters, heavy squall rain conditions knowing I had an extra pax and it emerged again unfussed after three days.... somewhere on the bodywork.

lol..its Insect Heaven around here, and vehicle Huntsman abound.
a few tips for the ladies, and other spider phobics
Spiders HATE petrochemicals..BUT are very resistant to most regular insecticides..which make them die a very slow and angry (read bitey) death
SO, a regular spray of WD40 on doorjambs, external mirrors, hatch, turn signals etc etc, will completely discourage spiders...watch them piss off as you do it!
One day, I was driving along in peak hour traffic, 3 lanes, middle lane
Drop the sun visor down, and as I had shorts on, a fat Huntsman plops on my bare thigh.
Keeping eyes on road, indicate and pull over, step out of car, brush huntsman out of footwell using a magazine.
As I have explained to (one) of my sons numerous times, screaming and bashing at the area where one imagines the spider to be not only INCREASES the risk of it biting you, but its undignified
