Default Transmission Issues. 2.7 CRD

Hi All.

2003 WG CRD 2.7 with 722.6 transmission

Fault has been occurring for last several months where on starting the transmission will not shift out of first. Problem was solved by stopping and then re-starting the car and transmission would then function normally. As of yesterday the problem is not sorted by re-starting the car. The trans light has been coming on with this issue and then going away after a short time. Shifter circuit board was replaced about a year ago. Trans fluid replaced about 6 months ago along with the electrical connector. Fluid levels are still good.

Did the turn key 3 times trick this morning with error code P0700 showing. No other accompanying codes.

Options include the TCM, solenoids, or possibly a short circuit.

I don't have access to an OBDII reader but suspect that's the obvious path to take to see if there are any additional codes. Happy to hear if anyone else has had this issue. Thanks.

See point 9 here: https://jeepswj.com/tips/

You really should get a code reader. The owner of this website has one available for Android and also recommends particular ELM327 interfaces.

I don't think the three-turns-of-the-key method displays transmission errors.

Thanks for that link. I've seen it elsewhere that the P0700 covers a few things but most feedback is towards the solenoids. That said I checked battery voltage this afternoon after the car has been sitting for a full day. Came in at 12.20. Not great and I don't know at what voltage the trans' will start playing up. More checking to do.

In the meantime I've checked OBDII scanners and have contacted BlueDriver in the USA as my car is not shown as being compatible. Hopefully it is. Note I use an iPhone and have no android devices which rules out many readers.

Have you considered a cheap android phone from the likes of Kogan? You can pick one up for well under $100.

The only scan tools that will work with the 2.7 CRD are several thousand dollars. For well under $150 you can set yourself up with WJ Diag Pro. You won't even need a SIM if you have WiFi access at home.

Oh, 12.2V... that's a problem. It should be 13-ish.

Yeah I was expecting 12.8 or so. So possibly I'll be chasing my tail a bit on this one to see what exactly is the problem. Thanks for the info.
