I also had a lot off trouble with new (chinese) batteries in the remotes, replaced with japanese brand batts & problem gone.
I tested chinese batts, & they had full volts but I suspect did not have the neccessary amperage output.

here's a side note: After doing this mod i had 2-3m range on the lock button, and about 10 presses from half a meter on the unlock button.

solution: on the back of the pcb board (that you see when you split the fob in half) is the lock/unlock button contacts, these where covered in crud as there was a split in the rubber. After a quick squirt with electrical contacts cleaner and a rub from a rag it was clean.
so i reassembled the fob and am now getting about 30m range from both buttons.
