Default 295/70/17 offset?

Hi Ausjeepers,

I have a 2017 JK Sport with a 2.5" AEV lift, I am looking to upgrade my stock wheels to some steelies & tyres(muddies).

Curious for anyone running 295/70/17 on a 17x8 steel rim and if so what offset did you find is good for this size?
Any rubbing or potential driveline issues?

Thanks for your help guys,
Ryan

FWIW, I run 285/70r17 Scorpion MTR's and my spare is on a Black Rock 937 17x8 wheel with 25mm offset/5.5" backspacing that fits under the stock guards and doesn't scrub in front on full lock as far as I remember. I do have front caster correction brackets that I have adjusted to centre the front axle.

They're a pretty decent quality wheel so balancing hasn't been a problem but I noticed some rust spots on the welds (after 4 years living outside and many beach trips though).

My regular wheels are Mopar 5 hole classic that are 17x8.5 with 19mm offset/5.2" backspacing, just barely fit under the stock guards and also don't rub on anything (for a reference point).

Nothing against steelies, but I haven't seen OEM or high quality alloy wheels break (yet) and they are lighter but I have seen steel wheels need to get hammered into holding air again a few times.

@st_za thanks for your reply mate...i had a quick look at your wheels and Scorpions, they look great! Ah ok that's good to hear about the scrub..an yep i have the geo brackets fitted too.

Yeh i guess that can be expected considering your whereabouts...

That's interesting to know regarding just fitting under your guards - I assume since you said they don't rub by that you mean they slightly / almost poke outside your guards?

Really? hmm that's interesting to know...I guess i didn't like the idea of spending $ on nice alloy's which will likely get scratched on a trail as opposed to a $100 steelie getting scratched...
