Default Rear bar tyre carrier recommendations

Hi all

Does anyone have any recommendations for rear bar/hitch wheel carriers?

I am keen to hear anyone's experience with Uneek's rear bar and tyre carrier https://www.uneek4x4.com.au/wk2-gran...-tyre-carrier/ or anything similar.

Since fitting larger tyres my spare no longer fits under the floor in the cargo space. For the short term I have been carrying the spare on the roof, but longer term I would like to carry the spare off the back of the car.

Thanks!

Hitch wheel carriers in my opinion there is only one - mirack.com.au

Either the food down one or their new swing away version.

I have one and rate it 10/10 and the price is super competitive.

I have this set up on my 2014 Summit
Be aware that you may need to change to a standard WK2 tow bar as distinct from a Summit bar.
If you want your electrical plugs away from the bottom of your bumper bar they locate them on the dedicated bracket which is not easily accessable.
Make sure the springs on the swing arm latches are stainless steel
Otherwise good product.

No matter which carrier you get.
Ensure that the lug nuts for the spare will take standard WK2 wheel nuts, that way you will always have a couple of spares on hand.
The fuel swing arm on the Uneek carrier can be easily converted to a double.
Uneek now use a contract installer in Moorabbin

Is it cheaper? Looks more expensive once you apply AUD exchange rate and postage. I particularly like Mirack because it is 100% Aussie owned, Aussie made and employs other Aussie’s.

I made my own around 3 years ago now as everything on the market was too heavy, too bulky, impeded departure angles and are not rated recovery points.

Mine weighs in at a mere 8.6kgs total, has two gas struts for lowering and raising, can tow using a standard 50mm tow ball or take it off and feed a soft shackle through for recoveries if needed, it is also removeable in a few minutes, most importantly it doesn't foul the departure angle at all
