Default Alternator for Cherokee

Hi,
Just wanted to know the best place to get an alternator for the Cherokee KJ 2.8 CRD. The cheapest I found was $575 from US Auto Parts. I can probably just change the pulley but the alternator is very old.

I am located in Brisbane.

I replaced mine a couple of years ago. You will find it locally but right now I can't remember where I got mine. It's worth giving Jeeepart in Hervey Bay a call as their prices etc are usually good.

Also worth comparing prices to Rockauto.com, factory re-manufactured Denso, part no: 210-0673

I decided to get a brand new OEX Alternator that comes with 3 years warranty, and cost $680. I bought it from local Ashdown-Ingram. I will try and fix the old Denso for backup.

I also looked at other brands but they all came with 12 months warranty, for a similar price.

I installed the new OEX alternator last night, and it is a very solid unit.
The OAD pulley is a metal type not plastic like others. The fact that it comes with 3 years warranty gives me some level of confidence.

The alternator decoupling pulley on the original alternators are not plastic - they are steel.

You're probably thinking that because they have a plastic cover on the end of them to stop crap getting in and/or material falling out.

I changed mine over about 2 years ago and it was a pretty simple job with a rattle gun.

The old unit was a rust infested POS, and had no confidence in it, hence why I got new one. The dealer must have looked for the worst possible used alternator when they replaced it a few weeks ago.
