Default Swap for blown dash speakers?

Howdy,

The dash speakers on my KJ are buzzing when the bass is turned up and I'm looking at what I can do to fix or replace them while swapping out the head unit.

Does anyone know of an inexpensive replacement speaker which will fit? I don't really want to spend a heap on these as the other speakers are working fine and I'm half wondering if I can just disable them and run off the other 4 larger speakers. Yep that would be cheating.

Also I read somewhere that a bit of tarzan glue around the cone rim can stop the buzzing problem, if anyone has tried this I'd be keen to hear if it worked.

The door speaker in ours was stuffed so I siliconed the cone to rim. Works fine.

Yes, have used super glue on the door speakers, worked 100%
Did it about 4 years ago.

But now I'm in the same position, my driver's side dash one is now distorting.

Anyone know easiest way to get to it???

Got to love it when a bit of super glue works for 4 years.
Which bit of the speaker did you glue? I gather they tend to go around the woofer edge but I thought I'd check what you did.

You can find a good right up on dash speakers here

If the link doesn't work google crutchfield 027 0100

It will be pretty obvious to you when you pull one out.

Basically, the front face of the cone is left to free float, when the entire outer surround/suspension edge should be stuck to the rim of the chassis.

If you push the cone upward from underneath you will see the surround come free, when it should still be attached and stopping it from going too far forward, but still with some suspension in it.

It's only like a couple of mil of surface area.

So, depending on how yours has come unattached, you can lay glue on the rim of the chassis and push the surround cloth down onto it, or if it has lifted right on the tip, or torn, then hold the edge of the surround onto the rim and glue it over the top of the join into place and hold it til it dries.

It may even be different on the same speaker, eg. one part may be slightly ripped, where the rest has just lifted etc.

If any of that makes sense...

My fronts were blown. I was sure it was the tweeters.

The ring around the cones were completely shot.
I ended up buying the Kenwood speakers and modifying the amps, instead of rebuilding the OE speakers.
