Check out my Ride(s)
Default Penrite ZF transmission fluid.

I made inquiries to Penrite's technical centre re their ZF suitable transmission fluid. I want to be very sure before before I would consider using it rather than Lifeguard 8.
This is their reply...........

Hi John,

The reason this product is not approved is that ZF obviously have their own oil and do not want competition in their market, they have not approved any aftermarket ZF fluids.

We have also done so much research in regards to this oil to be sure it will be suitable for use, this product has even been tested in vehicle owned by the family the company belongs to for years before release.

This product is perfectly suitable for use in this application, if you have any issues then getting back in contact with us regarding this and we will sort it out as we back this product 100%, if we didn’t we would not have the product, if it wasn’t suitable we would not say it is as that would cause more problems than its worth.

We have had no issues regarding this product.

Regards
Jessi

+1 as well given no common tranny actually requires a single proprietary oil.

Any further feedback re using the penrite fluid in the 8 speed?
Found a few people going to use it but not much feedback as to how it performed in the box.

I've used BMV in mine for the last 30000km. Only issue it may shift from 1st to 2nd a little harsher when cold ie, first shift. After then its all good, no issues. Beats paying ZF prices...

No change identified after a DIY using the BMW pan @ $130 and Penrite, and there are quite a few using Penrite and others perhaps as you have to remember this 8 speed ZF is in multiple vehicle brands worldwide now.

Lifeguard is just a complete marketing ploy as if it was that good, why would our trannies need servicing at the intervals we are finding are necessary from the crud build up on the magnets as pictured in many forums for under 100K. A magnificent oil surely would show a wear reduction compared to other non lifeguard products. And yet, the wear rate looks to be the same as most trannies of this kind.

Most people forget your only ever doing a 1/2 oil change in any regards so mixing old and new. The ZF is the last product to even worry about on our Jeeps by the way. Hope this helps.

I have the BMV sitting on the shelf just haven't got around to it... Have never used the recommended oil in any of my Jeeps or other vehicles for that matter have always used a grade higher or a more available product, penrite fits that bill as well as back up............. The Lifegard oil hasn't been rebranded Mopar becasue they probably wanted too much $$$, it like a Halal label, all about the money......... The Penrite answer to ATF+4 worked brillianltly and so would this BMV...

I will do the change before Xmas though......as for cost of pan, tranny filter and gasket for a Colorado from Holden quoted $220..............Ha.
