Default Xj constant vibrations...

Hey all,
Have a consistent and really annoying vibration in my XJ. I can't find it. It is felt through the wheel and floor/seats, and starts from 15kmh, gets its worst at 40 and doesn't go away after there.

Suggest anything and any experience please. I am at a loss here. I've replaced so much and I can't make it right. I'm losing it.

Hamish.

Default vibes

Take this with a grain of salt Hamish.
My XJ has a vibration that is pretty constant with my 3.5 inch lift.
At this height I shouldn't have to go with a slip yoke eliminator job though it will probably get one anyway.
Like yours it seems worse around 40km/h but never really goes away.

I did notice that the tail shaft yoke is a bit sloppy on the splines of the transfer box. Now heres the thing I'm pretty sure when I was stripping bits off another xj parts vehicle I had that it seemed to have way less movement of the yoke on the output splines. I haven't gotten round to checking this again.

I still had a little bit of vibration when I had the 2 inch lift in my jeep.

So check to see if you have play in the slip yoke and output spline shaft.

I just live with it at the moment but if I get time I have a low km transfer and drive shaft I will swap in to see if it resolves the problem. Like I said SYE job as a last resort.

How are your tyres, I've had treads start to de laminate and that makes the vehicle shake like the proverbial, starts at low speed and gets worse as speed increases. Worth checking maybe.

Brand new mate. Probably 2k on 2 and 1k on the other 2.
Have new unis in the tailshaft (front and back)
New front brakes
New steering damper

What else can I do. I have no clue. I'm at a loss guys

I only have a little bit of play. There doesn't seem to be too much. Unsure if this could be it but very well could be. There seemed to be no metal in the atf when I drained it the other month. I may get round to rebuilding my spare np242 if this is the case. I am super curious if this makes any difference for you. I guess one way to test it would be to remove the rear drive shaft and see if there is no vibrations?

I have a new gearbox mount, and even when stock I had a 'hoppy' type driveline vibration... Same with the lift and TC drop. Could be the output shaft...

Hamish.
mount a small cam, focused on the suss areas..ie upper trackbar mount

check Youtube on Death wobble..a guy does this and in slo-mo, its crystal clear the problem!

just a few $ for an iphone cam

Is your vehicle lifted at all?

just to be clear, mount the cam, drive around, review later in slo-mo..not look at iphone while driving
