Who cares? Unless you are going for 40"+ meats, it would be crazy to go for 20" rims in my opinion... just not enough sidewall. You can see this from Pete A's 41" Iroks on 20" wheels on his tow rig - they are like low profile street tires.

They make 37" boggers for 17" rims, and they make a whole range of Iroks for 17 and 20" rims.

More and more tires coming out for 17" rims - that's the size I would be looking at if I didn't have 16.5's.

40" tyres on 20" rim = 10" sidewall......That's the same as a 35x12r15....Ample I would have thoughts.....
Plus you get more stability due to less sidewall roll on the offcamber stuff.

...that's why I said 40"+ mate...

In my opinion, for decent sidewall flex at a decent pressure (so that hard contact doesn't allow the rim to hit the rocks and be damaged), and decent sidewall stability, 10" would be the minimum amount of sidewall.

I think 10-12" is about where I would like to be, but this also depends on the tire you run (how thick the sidwalls are, radial or bias, width of tire, etc).

Actually, just realized that I am at 11" of sidewall... fancy that.

If I put a set of 40"s on the Jeep with the dana 30 in the front, it will break.. if it breaks then I can justify the diff upgrade and just explain to my gf that another Jeep part failed.. she will understand

TT,
I don't see why not - That was my approach

Shane,
Yeah I know - was just picking on it.
At this stage I'm looking for something in the 40x13R20 size.
20" (rims) to clear the brakes,
13" to match the stock diff tyre width,
40" because that should be a neat fit.
R because I want it road legal and couldn't be frigged running 2 sets of rims/tyres
