Default Who wants to help out on a Belgian jeeper's build?

Okay, here's the deal.
I am driving a MANUAL 2015 2dr Jk Wrangler Sport CRD, 3.21 gear ratio, 245/75r17 stock tires and wheels... feels already underpowered and going in reverse on a hill is just embarrassing.

Been reading the last few months about re-gears on countless of forums around the globe, even contacted local Jeep dealers and the likes.
But it drives me insane to the point I had almost ran outside swinging an axe whilst yelling like a retard...
'cause all the answers I get are so inconsistent.

I'd like to run a 2.5" aev lift, 315/70r17 bfg KO2's.

I am torn between 4.10 and 4.56 gears... but, what mileage numbers will I get, where will my RPM settle on the highway, will it be sufficient enough to drive long highway trips to the mountains and then do some serious offroading in the mountains???

My next trip will be 3 weeks in the French/Italian Alps... and I'd rather not get the feeling there to just get out of the jeep and push it down a cliff and just hike back home haha

I've been doing the calculations, 4.10 would bring me to 2360 RPM driving 120km/h running the 315's opposed to the 2019 RPM driving the same speed completely stock...how does this all translate to a real world situation?
'cause this looks like a MASSIVE difference.

Big thanks in advance.

Problem one is that you have a manual.... they are dead off the line, drive an auto version and you'll think it was a different engine. They are also apparently detuned to "spare" the gearbox and fragile clutch.

In your current situation gearing is your friend, early diesels came with 4.1's so your not doing something bizarre. However depending on your driving style the change could hurt your economy...... its not a perfect world
it will help fill the off idle hole a tiny bit but not by much.

Of course ratio changes are expensive, so think about future tire upgrades now.. if your looking at bigger rubber later on then 4.1 might not be enough..... and you'll end up doing it all again.

A shift to a higher numerical ratio will also help off road if that's important to you.

My Rubicon has factory 4.10 gears, and its auto. Putting that size tyres has not really made much difference. If you are regearing, you should consider 4.56, particularly if you live in mountains.

I have a 2010 CRD Auto and I run 4.88 with a 315/70r17

Generally manuals will get a recommendation for 4.56 ratios on this forum for the same tyre

I think the issue is that most Aussies aren't familiar with running their Jeeps at 120km/h. We'd generally run at 100 or 110 so we're happy to go to a numerically higher ratio.

You're also driving in the mountains though so you need good low down power.

It will be a compromise to find a solution that suits high speed, steep inclines and alsoo be capable of running 315/70r17.

I would recommend a simple GDE engine tune for some more power, but then you may end up with clutch issues (aftermarket clutches are available now I believe)

I would also say do not rush to put 315 tyres on your jeep in the space of 3 weeks, it needs decent planning

Off-road, A 2 door doesn't really need 315's. It will be very capable with a 285/70r17

GDE do an ECU tune as do a few other specialists, Murchisons do also, if my goldfish memory serves me correctly. Use the search function as there are several threads that have covered them.

Thanks for all the input guys!

Yeah, I was already going back and forth between the 285/70 and the 315/70.
Before I bought the jeep I fell in love with the 35" on the 2 door. It kind of sticks to my brain when trying to figure out what I really want. But given all the input I read I start to think I'd better focus on Performance over Clearance and "beefy looks".

Maybe I'm indeed better off going for a 2" lift, 285/70r17 KO2, 4.10 gears and extra recovery gear that suits my needs, 'cause I am not really interested in rock-crawling.
Already have an high clearance front bumper and the AEV rear, so smart driving could take me quite far indeed.

Clutch will be upgraded no matter what by an NPC HD.
And I was thinking about the ECU tune already, but first I want to learn more about all the things that could possible break with all that extra "oomph".

And I'm not really trying to rush things as opposed to what some might think , the 3 week alpine trip is somewhere late August 2018 'cause that's the safest period to cross the highest pass (JULY->AUGUST could still have loads of snow and thick fog).

BTW: Got my eyes on the Warn M-8000s, thought this would be an excellent option for a two door coupled with a snatchblock or two. Feel free to prove me wrong.
