Default Garmin Australian Map Update Discontinuation

This is probably a worry for Grand Cherokees with GPS navigation which use Garmin maps.

Map Update Discontinuation for Certain Australian and New Zealand Garmin Automotive Devices Beginning July 1, 2023, Garmin map updates for the following Australian and New Zealand Garmin automotive navigation devices will be discontinued. Map updates will continue to be available until that time.

Considering there hasn’t been an update since 2016 (?) I wouldn’t think it’s much change. Jeep and Garmin fell out sometime around then I believe, which is why the newer modes rely on TomTom maps.

It was discussed on another thread that Jeep Aus are about to introduce a program for updated TomTom maps and other UConnect updates - one off payment (~$180) for 3yrs of updates

Thanks for the info..I wasn't aware..My 2017 Grand has Garmin maps as far as I know and they are certainly well out of date.

Must’ve made the switch later then, but yeah the most recent ones are definitely TomTom, as will be the updated maps. I’m more keen to see what/if they bring updates to the uconnect system as a whole, not just maps

Tomtom have been doing the maps from 2018 onwards, but have now agreed to do the maps for the earlier models is the way i take it.

I had been trying to get a map update for my 2015 Cherokee since I bought it new until I traded it. Maps were 2012, released 2013. They came out with a 2016 update that was then recalled, and later released but was still using the original base maps with a couple of tweaks. Roads in my area built in 2014 did not show on them.

Not sure if I will update, getting used to using waze on the phone

Would love a few more details mate. I've always been tempted to upgrade my 2015 to the later Uconnect, but can't justify the price
