Older & wiser now. Everything is not aircon here. Its just as hot here as it was there in 75!

You could just take head 3 off & have a look.

Yeah can't say I blame you. I was just servicing a unit out at work the other week and it was 46. Not so much fun.

Yeah just pulling 3 will be my first step and see from there whether it's worth ordering parts or not.
Have you reused the head bolts?

yeah got a kit and bolts but got it from ARCOPISTON

or you could go genuine for $600

when you pull the heads of check all the water ports on the block, I had a rear port that was rusted over restricting water flow by about 90%
if you need info on how to do it and specs for the head etc let me know, I can email you though the info.

they are good reliable engines the only major engine dramas I have had in 9yrs is a welch plug on the 3rd head and a snapped glow plug (the glow plug was costly, new head)

I did not use anything new.
Did bolts up as per spec & an extra 1/4 turn.

So after much deliberation, this is the route I've chosen. And then it's out the door. Like I said earlier, this thing is not really my weapon of choice so the thought of pumping dollars into it doesn't impress me.

So I'm going to throw it up on eBay with full disclosure of the problem. Would $1500 be an unrealistic price to expect, unregistered but still driveable?

You probably wont get a bite. Ebay is notorious for cars not selling unless they are perfect. have a look at completed listings on jeeps on ebay to see what they actually sell or dont sell for.
