I had a look at this today and viola the wiring to the lamp in the auto selector indicator had the smallest rub through back to bare copper so that was an easy fix with a bit of electrical tape, but when I was refitting this I noticed that the wiring is pulled really tight across the shifter mechanism as it is this wiring loom also feeds to the transfer case lever indicator so what I did was peel the tape back several cm's and then fitted some split conduit over the tee and then taped it up, this allowed the wiring to the auto selector to be rerouted around the outside of shifter mechanism to avoid all moving parts so hopefully this won't happen again....

1. replacement switch didn't fix this as first thought.
2. flushed multi pin connector at firewall in engine bay with contact cleaner and fixed, maybe lucky.
