Its a counter balance. Needs to be done up nice & tight. Probably rates a mention in the workshop manual. it will clunk around a little if its loose.
How much backlash do you have in the diff? that will give you a clunk. Also a bad engine mount will cause a clunk.
You must be in another part of the world as in Australia we only have Diesel Sports.
You may wish to put your location up in your information, we like to have members from all over the world.

Backlash? I'm not sure what you mean there buddy, do you mean movement? I'll have a look. I didn't realise any came with a counter balance, never seen one before. I guess mine has it because it's a diesel? I'm from the UK. I would love to get the clunk gone. Have you had to replace engine mounts before? Looks awkward

Put in neutral, get under it & try & rotate the tail shaft back & forward by hand. it will show any movement in the diff etc.
Diesels have the counter balance.
a few on here have had to replace mounts, not a nice job. A fuel leak at the injectors can destroy the mount on that side.
Those here in Australia often get parts from over your way.
Good luck!

I take it this method works the same for the 4.0?
And how much 'play' is allowed/normal?
