Mark, one of those T's on my Jeep just went into a thermostat that controlled my electric fans that i used to have. I now use it to purely turn on the Derale transmission cooler.
The other one went to my LPG system.. but thats long gone now.
I did have leaks from these hoses that only showed up when i pressurized the system and did the sneaking around at night with the black light trick. I could just see coolant glowing and slowly dripping out.

Cheers,

Before I reduce the 99 to a parts car I am going out the Car Graveyard out the back of the dump I might be able to get the overflow hose rad to bottle of a wreck it's worth a try and Free the hearer tap bypass I think I can use straight joins there is enough hose years ago I changed out the gas converter hose for new stuff and made it a bit longer to try and stop the sag .... I am yet to see if I can get the joiners in town ... otherwise ebay and waiting on the post ...
I think in the short time if I can get it sucking and purging to the bottle ... that should help a bit

Well that was interesting sorta? I went out the car graveyard and no cars the dump had been bulldozed so I bought 1.5 meters of fuel line when I pulled the old hose off there was coolant in the line ... and the bottle was down? ... I haven't looked since last Tuesday before we went to Barcaldine it was at the high mark then .. so it has sucked some in anyway new hose! topped up the overflow tank the radiator was full ? but in the morning I am going to run with the cap off to see if the coolant level drops and if there is air?
There is no sign of it leaking around the heater tap .. I can get the connectors down the road to bypass the heater tap I checked today when I bought the hose.
Just have to see how I go .....

I have been quiet for a bit as my 10 yr old Toshiba laptops battery died a new one on the way but! until then I am forced to use the missuses piece of ship HP Celleron powered always caching piece of shit Lifeboat
I have not touched the heater tap or bypass but have replaced the overflow hose I topped the bottle up and we did the Barcaldine run today the temps were back to hot normal .............................
It shows no signs of over heating? no pings pops or steam or dumping coolant when you stop? just runs hot .. last time I drove the red 99 to Barcaldine a few years ago before the refresh it was lucky to get over the 100 mark air on or off we tested it each way .. so I am back thinking about the temp gauge again ? is it accurate?
Before you comment ......
Years ago I tested the gauge with a laser temp gun all seemed normal
The sender at the rear of the head is not stock as the plug has been cut off and wired to the sender also I have never seen this before?
You drive the car it gets up to temp you park overnight or for a few hours or days and when go to start before you turn the key on the temp gauge still says the temp the car was parked at? turn the key and the gauge drops to 0
Any ideas?

You should obtain an OBD2 sensor and use that

The BAFX connects to a '96..not all do, it cost me about $30 from USA

They display the coolant temp digitally

Also, I would recommend the Engine Watchdog.
You can wire it up yourself and then have a digital read out of temps.
