It seems in my case to have increased fuel consumption by about 1 litre/100kms at 100-110 km/h.

There is noticeable wind noise from it at speed.

I spoke to Michael and his comments were that some people get 1 l/100km better, some worse. He also suggested that a free flow air cleaner would improve fuel consumption as the airbox tends to concentrate the air into a small area of the paper filter.

I have a long trip, towing around 1.7 tonnes, coming up from July so I will see how it goes...

Thumbs up from me for posting a review which isn't entirely favourable on a product you purchased, most people end up trying to justify what they bought.

Thanks, Snakedoctor.

Tell it like it is...

The snorkel is a good design - the head is big and well away from the body so it shouldn't gulp water on a deep, steep entry. I worry about the ones close to the windscreen.

Michael sweated blood designing it. Jeep have made it really hard to fit a snorkel, forcing air to run from the A pillar all the way to the front of the vehicle then do a 180 degree bend into the air box. I would have preferred it if they had made a new airbox and taken the air in the side.

I look at the photos of the Murchison ones in a box and wonder how the air gets from the snorkel to the airbox...

Cheers

we've now fit both Murchisons and Airflow at Uneek and I have to say the Murchison one is miles better. A few points
1. Airflow one has a huge head but a gets really small right near the air box (like half the size of the Murchison one) So i'd say probably twice if not three times the airflow from the Murchison one.
2. Airflow one can be noisy under heavy acceleration, whereas the Murchison one is pretty quiet
3. Murchison one fits about an hour quicker
4. I'll leave aesthetics up to the beholder.

So how does the Murchison one get more air into the airbox?

Cheers

I think the question is how does the Murchison one not strangle the engine.

The standard WK2 air box and filter offers no restriction, even at higher power levels, but typically snorkels strangle engines and do not allow them to make the power the cars are rated to even in standard form, let alone if modified.
