Default Ozi Explorer

So just installed a ebay special double din unit to my Jk with navigation. Been looking in the ozi explorer nav for it and have downloaded and installed the trial version and it works. So looking at buying the full version at $49. My question is, do I need to purchase the PC version as well or will it work as is with just the unit? What are peoples thoughts on the program? Im manly wanting it for offroad nav so i know where i am and how to get back.

It is possible to use stand alone, but having the PC version makes designing routes and placing waypoints easier. Also if you want to make your own maps you'll need the PC version

Does it come with maps preloaded? The trial version is just a big green map of Australia with no detail what so ever.

The PC version is handy if you want to plan your trip on a big screen and it's easier to drop waypoints more accurately, etc. but it's not essential. If you do get the PC version, you will need to spend a bit of time to familiarise yourself with its menu system which is quite extensive. I personally plan my trips on the unit itself because I can't be bothered transferring files from the PC to the unit and stuffing around with cables. Oziexplorer is good and very reliable (will very rarely crash as opposed to the other Android apps I use) but these days there are other options out there such as MemoryMap, Hema Explorer, etc. I don't think there is one 'best' navigation program, they are just different. I normally run Oziexplorer on the Hema Navigator and either MemoryMap or Hema Explorer on an Android device because the maps that I've got on them are all different i.e. some better than others depending on the area I'm travelling.

Get the PC version and buy or download maps. Go to their website and read up on how to purchase maps and howto use or stitch maps.

I think from memory the Demo version will do everything except talk to the GPS which you wont need anyway.

So this is what I see when I put it on. It found the GPS but this is all I get. The website says that if I buy the full CE version it will just allow it to receive the GPS signal the whole time not just the 20 minutes in the Trail. Does this sound right?
